The ASPMA Board of Directors shall select up to three candidates as interns, each serving a one year term. The candidate shall provide the Board of Directors with a resume demonstrating prior leadership experience, past work experience and professional affiliations. A letter from the candidate should indicate current employer, why the experience of an internship would be valuable and demonstrate support of their family during the internship period and possible future involvement on the Board of the ASPMA.
Any ASPMA member who holds a PMAC status, either clinical or administrative may apply. The applicant must be in good standing with the ASPMA being up to date on their dues and recertification status. The applicant must currently be employed by a podiatric physician with a current APMA membership.
The selected interns will begin their responsibilities at the 2012 Midwest Podiatry Conference in Chicago, Illinois. The ASPMA will pay travel, lodging and meeting registration for two meetings during the internship period. During these two meetings, the intern (s) will assist board members with their duties at those meetings. Examples are, setting up meeting rooms, welcoming and directing assistants, assisting speakers, handing out and collection of evaluation. Interns also act as a liaison with the moderators of the lecture tracks and work in the ASPMA Promotion and Marketing booth along with any other function as requested by ASPMA board members.
The intern (s) shall at all times act in a professional manner, dress in appropriate business attire at meetings and adhere to the ASPMA Bylaws and Principle of Ethics during their term. Between meetings during the remainder of their term, interns will be assigned other duties working with the Board of Directors by helping on various committees promoting the ASPMA. Upon completion of the one year term, intern (s) will be evaluated by the Board of Directors and considered as possible candidate for a second term of internship or other ASPMA Board positions.
